I have been a fool. I trusted my creditors, that they would tell me when the terms of our agreement changed as they gave me no date upon which they would begin to charge interest, only that it would occur some 18 months hence. I cannot remember when those 18 months began, and cannot find the paperwork to see when our agreement commenced, and so I trusted them to give me fair warning. Of course, they did not.
And in those many months past, I have been choosing to pay all with credit and then pay my creditors, as they would fight for me were I tricked and my things stolen, whereas when one pays with cash it is gone the moment it leaves your hands. But though I think live well within my means, the money I owe grows more and more by the day. Unexpected expenses will be my undoing. Repair to my carriage which I must take to my job due to the distance, twice in the last month. A place to rest my head overnight on my long journey to the rare healer who specializes in my condition and has the power to help me, for though I am lucky in that there is one nearby, he is unnecessarily cruel and has strange requirements and bad reputation, and so I must make my way 300 miles north and then 300 miles back again to see one who will.
And so I come to that damnable balance that I owe, which was a few months ago manageable but now has ballooned to twice as much and now that I owe them nearly all they are willing to lend me the charges for interest begins. Eighteen hundred in interest all told.
I have begun to pay things in cash again, to try and not increase the balance I owe even more…
